RTT Taiwan February Event: Elephant Mountain

RTT Taiwan February Event: Elephant Mountain

Still have things to cross off your “Things to do in Taipei” bucket list? I know I do. So for this month’s event, I’m taking us on a hike that’s right in the heart of our amazing city: Elephant Mountain. Elephant Mountain is just a short walk from the base of Taipei 101, …and about a twenty-minute hike up to the top. (Note: Even though it’s a short hike, it consists of mostly stairs… so be prepared). It will all be worth it once we make it to the viewing area; it’s supposed to be one of the BEST views of the city. We can then continue on and check out the rest of the hikes in that area, or we can end there and all get lunch together. If anyone is interested in the hike but would rather go for sunset, let me know. It’s supposed to be packed with people on the weekends, especially at night, but if everyone would rather have night views of the city then we can definitely change the time! When: Sunday, February 19th Time: 12pm Meet: Taipei City Hall MRT, Exit 2 Cost: Free, but bring $ for lunch if interested Bring: […]

Event Recap: RTT Taiwan Christmas Event at Playing Lounge Bar

Event Recap: RTT Taiwan Christmas Event at Playing Lounge Bar

For our Christmas event, we headed to Playing Lounge Bar in Taipei for an evening unlike any other Reach to Teach event this year. Despite its small size, Playing was a perfect spot for us. There were over 30 of us cozying and mingling on the comfy couches and chairs. Each table had its own hookah with different flavors for us to try. We also got specials on drinks throughout the night; my favorite being the 2-for-1 deal at 11! The best part of the night, however, was the belly dancing show. After about an hour of hookah, drinking, and catching up, all of the lights came off except one spotlight in the middle of the room. The belly dancer danced right in the middle only feet from our tables; it was awesome having the show literally right in front of us! In addition to celebrating an RTT Christmas, we also celebrated Euan’s birthday! The night ended with a cheers and a birthday song in his honor. After leaving the bar around midnight, a bunch of us headed to Babe 18 for an after party/birthday celebration 🙂 I’m grateful that so many of us could make it out for our […]

Celebrate an Arabian Christmas with Reach to Teach at Playing Lounge Bar

Celebrate an Arabian Christmas with Reach to Teach at Playing Lounge Bar

Playing Lounge Bar is known as the best place in Taiwan for shishas, hookahs, belly dance, cocktails, and fine food. Who needs Christmas movies, candy canes, and holiday caroling? I’d rather be with you all, cozying up at this chic bar over food, cocktails, and a belly dancing show! I can’t think of a better way to get in the Christmas spirit—Taiwan style. Some of the food options include pizza, chicken wings, chicken fingers, wraps, etc. The room can only accommodate 25 of us, so RSVP early to secure your spot! Email me at mary@reachtoteachrecruiting.com or respond to the Facebook event. Hope you will all join us for a RTT night out and remember to dress to impress! Let’s have some fun. Event Recap: RTT Taiwan October BBQ Event

Event Recap: RTT Taiwan October BBQ Event

Located among a myriad of Japanese restaurants, Hinomai Yakiniku was an awesome choice for our October Reach to Teach event! Unlike many restaurants, you have to take your shoes off before sitting down at your table. Our table was designed in traditional Japanese fashion on a raised platform with low ceilings; we had to crouch while walking to get there and sit down. The atmosphere was cozy, with seven of us sharing two BBQ’s and plate after plate of delicious beef, pork, shrimp, vegetables, and more. And of course, the all-you-can-drink keg of beer wasn’t bad either 🙂 After dinner, Carrie and John took us to a cute little iced drink stand in the Dunhua area. If you’re ever in the mood for a spiked Slurpee, this is the place you should go. After that, we walked to On Tap to meet up with more RTT friends waiting for us in the game room. I want to thank everyone who showed up;  I had a lot of fun! There will not be a November event, but we are planning a Christmas event for the beginning of December. Look out for details on Facebook! Cheers, Mary

Event Recap: RTT Taiwan Day Trip to Wulai

Event Recap: RTT Taiwan Day Trip to Wulai

I want to give a BIG thank you to everyone who showed up to the RTT September event; I couldn’t have asked for a better turnout! The day began with over 20 of us lined up to grab the bus to Wulai. Since there were so many of us we couldn’t fit on the first bus and had to wait to get the next one. Luckily we all fit on the second bus, but had to stand the entire forty minute journey with jerky turns and winding roads.   Stepping of the bumpy bus was a relief, but I found many people asking me, “What do we do now?” I should have warned everyone that this was my first time in Wulai as well, so I was just as clueless as everyone else on where to start. I was saved by the maps and signs guiding novice travelers where to go. The town itself is quaint and charming, surrounded by beautiful mountain views. However, the main road in town is filled with tourist traps—snacks, trinkets, and goodies—but we quickly passed through trying to catch a glimpse of the famous waterfall. Once we made the twenty minute trek uphill to the […]

Reach to Teach Taiwan September Event: Day Trip to Wulai

Reach to Teach Taiwan September Event: Day Trip to Wulai

The past two RTT events have been held at bars around the city, and as much as I love a good night out, I think it’s about time we get the crew together for a day trip! Just south of Taipei, Wulai is a small aboriginal village famous for its hot springs, hiking, and waterfalls. I haven’t been there before, but I’ve been told it’s a must see in Taiwan.   One of the main attractions is the Wulai Waterfall, about a 30-minute walk from the base of the village. Not in the mood to walk? No problem. There’s a gondola that takes you up to the top of the mountain with beautiful views of the waterfall. (NT 220) In addition to the waterfall, there are numerous trails for hiking if anyone’s up for it. Personally, I would love to try a soak in the public hot springs, so bring your bathing suit just in case! And right at the base of the village is an open air market on Wulai Old Street with shops and places to eat.   I will keep an eye out on the weather, but let’s hope for some sun 🙂   WHEN: Sunday, September 18th   MEET: 11:00am at Xindian MRT Station […]
