Reach to Teach Taiwan September Event: Day Trip to Wulai

Reach to Teach Taiwan September Event: Day Trip to Wulai

The past two RTT events have been held at bars around the city, and as much as I love a good night out, I think it’s about time we get the crew together for a day trip! Just south of Taipei, Wulai is a small aboriginal village famous for its hot springs, hiking, and waterfalls. I haven’t been there before, but I’ve been told it’s a must see in Taiwan.   One of the main attractions is the Wulai Waterfall, about a 30-minute walk from the base of the village. Not in the mood to walk? No problem. There’s a gondola that takes you up to the top of the mountain with beautiful views of the waterfall. (NT 220) In addition to the waterfall, there are numerous trails for hiking if anyone’s up for it. Personally, I would love to try a soak in the public hot springs, so bring your bathing suit just in case! And right at the base of the village is an open air market on Wulai Old Street with shops and places to eat.   I will keep an eye out on the weather, but let’s hope for some sun 🙂   WHEN: Sunday, September 18th   MEET: 11:00am at Xindian MRT Station […]

Get Your Game On! Celts FC Taipei Soccer Club is Looking for Players

Get Your Game On! Celts FC Taipei Soccer Club is Looking for Players

There are countless ways to enjoy yourself while in Taiwan, and here’s just one of the many opportunities.  Celts FC is a football (soccer) club based out of Taipei.  It’s a great way to play a competitive sport, meet new people, and see even more of what Taiwan has to offer. Cetlts FC plays in the CPL, a league in Taipei, which has 10 teams.  The teams are mostly filled with expats living in Taipei from all over the world.  Each game is truly an international competition.  We have training every Thursday night at 8:00 pm near the Jiantan MRT, and a game almost every Sunday during the seasons.  The fall season goes from late August until November, while the spring/summer season lasts from April until July.  The competition is competitive though all are welcome to come out and play. Our ethos is social football.  While we try to be as competitive as possible we do realize that the sport is about having fun.  In addition to the practices and games we plan events once a month.  These events include but are not limited to bowling, shrimp fishing (a must do in Taiwan), camping trips, and weekend tournaments.  In November […]

Event Recap: RTT Taiwan August Event at Roxy Rocker

Event Recap: RTT Taiwan August Event at Roxy Rocker

August brought in a bunch of new teachers to Taiwan, making this month’s event full of new faces! Admittedly, I was running late and missed out on all the drama: the first venue lost our reservation, sent us last minute to another bar down the road, and then made the first few people who showed up wait to get in! However, the hassle and last minute venue-change didn’t stop us from having a good time! Listening to Led Zeppelin, ACDC, Jimi Hendrix, and more, the bar had an awesome music selection to compensate for the mix up. It was great to meet and welcome all the new teachers, and to spend the night socializing, listening to great music, and showing off our moves on the dance floor. Many thanks to Carrie for dealing with the hassle of the reservation and making sure we had a good time. Also, thank you for the new Reach to Teach T-shirts; I will be rocking mine all over Taiwan 🙂 Keep an eye out for details of our next monthly event! Cheers, Mary

RTT May event: Thai Beer house and KTV.

A massive thank you to everyone who came out to join us on Saturday night for our May event at the Thai beer house, followed by KTV. It was lovely to see some familiar faces as well as some new ones. From what I can remember it was a great night, thankfully I have some photographs to help piece together the evening! Unfortunately, my memory has not failed me in remembering every single moment of my Michael Jackson ‘Bad’ rendition, complete with moonwalk and thrusting. Oh the shame! Thanks to everyone who came and made the night so much fun! Hope to see you at the next event.
